Privacy policy for RenewCue

The short version

RenewCue does not collect your data. There is no account, no server, and no sign-up. Everything you put into the app — your subscriptions, their prices, your renewal dates and reminders — is stored on your own device and is never sent to us, because there is nowhere for it to be sent to. We run no backend.

RenewCue never links to your bank and never asks for banking credentials.

We do not use analytics, crash reporting, advertising, or tracking software of any kind. There is no such code in the app, and an automated check on every code change refuses any that tries to enter.

What we collect

Nothing.

Under Google Play's definition, "collect" means data the app transmits off your device. RenewCue transmits none. That covers every category the Play Data safety form lists — personal information, financial information, location, contacts, photos, app activity, device identifiers — all of them: not collected, not shared.

What stays on your device

The information you enter into RenewCue is held in a private database inside the app's own storage on your phone:

• the subscriptions you track, and any note you add to them

• prices, billing cycles and currencies

• renewal and reminder dates

• whether you have unlocked the paid version

Other apps cannot read it. We cannot read it. If you uninstall RenewCue, Android deletes it along with the app.

When RenewCue uses the internet, and what it sends

RenewCue needs an internet connection for three things. None of them sends your subscriptions, your notes, or anything else you have typed into the app.

Exchange rates — so amounts in other currencies can be shown in yours. What is sent: a request for public exchange-rate data. It carries no account, no device ID, and nothing from your list.

Service catalogue — so the app knows typical prices and cancellation pages for common services. What is sent: a read of a public file. Every installation reads the same file, so the request says nothing about you.

Purchases — to sell and restore the one-time paid unlock. What is sent: handled entirely by Google Play Billing. We never see your payment details — but a purchase is, by its nature, a transaction with Google. See below.

The first two are outbound reads: nothing you have typed into the app travels with them. They do, like any web request, reach their server from your IP address — that is how the internet works, and under EU law an IP address can count as an online identifier. Those servers belong to third parties (a public exchange-rate service, and GitHub Pages for the catalogue); we do not receive their access logs, and RenewCue keeps no record of the requests it makes.

Purchases

RenewCue's paid features are unlocked by a one-time purchase through Google Play — there is no recurring charge and no subscription. An optional higher-priced "Supporter" purchase does the same thing at a price you choose to pay; it grants no extra features.

Google Play processes the payment. We do not receive, see, or store your card details, address, or Google account. The proof that you bought the unlock is kept on your device, and Google Play is what restores it if you reinstall or change phone. Google's own handling of your purchase is covered by Google's privacy policy, not this one.

Two things follow from that, and we would rather state them than leave them implied. Google records the purchase against your Google account, and Google reports it back to us in its own sales figures — an order number, the country, the amount and the date. We never see a name, an email address, or a postal address. And the proof-of-purchase that Play hands to the app stays on your device: RenewCue has no server to send it to.

Backups you make yourself

RenewCue can export your data to a backup file, and read one back in. You choose where that file goes, through Android's own file picker — the app has no storage of its own to upload it to and never uploads it anywhere.

If you point the picker at a folder that is synced to a cloud service, that copy is then handled by whatever service you chose, under that service's terms. That is you moving your own data, and it is the one path by which your subscription list can leave the device — always because you asked it to.

Permissions the app asks for, and why

• Internet / network state — the three uses in the table above. Nothing else.

• Notifications and exact alarms — so a renewal reminder arrives on the day it is supposed to, and survives a reboot. These are scheduled and shown entirely on your device; nothing is sent anywhere to produce them.

• Photos you share into the app — if you share a screenshot into RenewCue to add a subscription from it, the text is read on your device. The image is not uploaded, and neither is the text taken from it.

RenewCue asks for no access to your contacts, your location, your call or message history, or your files at large.

Children

RenewCue is not directed at children and does not knowingly hold information about them. Since the app collects nothing at all, it holds nothing about anyone.

Your rights

European data-protection law gives you rights over personal data an organisation holds about you — access, correction, erasure, portability, and objection.

In RenewCue's case those rights have almost nothing to attach to: we hold no personal data about you. There is no account to close and no record of you on any system of ours, because there is no system of ours.

Practically:

• To see or move your data — use the app's own backup export. The file is plain JSON and yours to keep.

• To erase it — uninstall the app, which deletes it, or delete individual entries in the app.

• To ask us something — write to the contact address above.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published at this address and the effective date at the top is updated. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on Google Play.

This website 

This page is hosted on Google Sites. Google sets its own cookies to serve the page and shows its standard cookie notice at the bottom; that notice is about Google's hosting of this website, not about the RenewCue app. The statements above are about the app, which contains no analytics, crash-reporting, advertising or tracking code of any kind.
